Arginine vasopressin (AVP) resistance is a type of tubulopathy - a group of rare kidney conditions that affects the tubes (tubules) in the kidneys’ filters (the nephrons). Tubulopathies occur when there is a problem with the tubules which makes them not work as well as they should do.
In AVP resistance the part of the tubules that is affected is called the collecting duct.
AVP resistance affects around 1 in 250,000 children in the UK.
AVP resistance is also known as nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. It is not the same as diabetes, although it can have similar symptoms.
