The main symptoms of AVP resistance are:
- Excess thirst
- Excess urination
Other symptoms in children may include:
- Wetting the bed
- High temperature
- Slow growth (also known as failure to thrive)
- Feeling very tired or weak
- Loss of appetite
Children with AVP resistance can become dehydrated quickly, because their kidneys cannot hold on to water. The risk is higher when your child is unwell, has diarrhoea, or in hot weather. Babies and very young children are most at risk, because they cannot ask for a drink.
Seek urgent medical advice if your child has any signs of dehydration.
